M-CTSU and MCRU Welcome New Medical Directors
The Clinical Trials Support Office is pleased to announce that starting January 1, 2023, Peter Higgins, M.D., Ph.D., and Dinesh Khanna, MBBS, MSc, will begin their 2-year appointment as Medical Director for the Michigan Clinical Trials Support Unit (M-CTSU) and Michigan Clinical Research Unit (MCRU), respectively.
Dr. Higgins previously served as Chair of the 2020 CTSU Medical Director Committee following the CTSU consolidation into the M-CTSU and Oncology CTSU (O-CTSU). With the maturation of the CTSUs and standardization of work processes, the Medical School Office of Research sought to further consolidate the leadership. The M-CTSU Medical Director will collaborate with the O-CTSU Medical Director and report to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Research.
Dr. Khanna joins MCRU after previously acting as one of the founding Medical Directors of the Ambulatory & Chronic Disease CTSU prior to the 2020 consolidation. The MCRU Medical Director will also report to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Research, and work collaboratively with the M-CTSU and O-CTSU Medical Directors and CTSO Operations Director to improve work processes and attainment of the overall contribution of MCRU to the strategic metrics of the clinical trial enterprise.
We would like to offer our gratitude and appreciation to the following faculty for their dedication and support to their units:
- Keith Aaronson – Heart, Vessel, Blood CTSU and M-CTSU
- Judy Heidebrink – Neurosciences & Sensory CTSU and M-CTSU
- Caren Goldberg – Children's CTSU and M-CTSU
- Bob Hyzy – Acute, Critical Care, Surgery, & Transplant CTSU and M-CTSU
- Steve Taylor – Behavior, Function, & Pain CTSU and M-CTSU
